PixelDocs Privacy: 12 PDF Image Tools, Zero Uploads

Sep 26, 2026 • 5 min read

PixelDocs runs 12 free PDF and image tools 100% in your browser. Merge, split, compress and convert files privately — no uploads, signup or tracking.

Yesterday I announced PixelDocs — 12 free PDF and image tools with no uploads. Today, the showcase: how every tool runs 100% client-side, what that means for your privacy, and how to verify it yourself.

Live site: pixeldocs.mayurmalpani.online — merge, split, compress, convert, protect, and rotate PDFs plus compress, crop, resize, and convert images, all in your browser.

In short: your files are read into browser memory and processed with Web Workers, Canvas, pdf-lib, and pdf.js. There is no upload endpoint, no analytics, and cross-tool file handoff auto-deletes from IndexedDB after 30 minutes.

PixelDocs vs upload-first tools

What happensPixelDocsTypical Smallpdf / iLovePDF-style tools
File upload to serverNever — no upload endpoint existsRequired before any processing
Processing locationYour browser (Web Workers + Canvas)Remote servers
Account / emailNoneOften required for full features
Tracking analyticsNoneUsage analytics and ad trackers common
File retention riskMemory-only, IndexedDB pruned after 30 minServer copies retained per provider policy
Works on slow networksYes, after page loadDepends on upload speed

That table is the whole pitch: if a document is too sensitive to email to a stranger, do not upload it to a stranger’s server to compress it.

The 12-tool tour with real uses

Merge PDF — combine without uploading

Drag contracts, marksheets, or invoices into Merge PDF , reorder visually, and download one file. Common win: job applications that demand a single PDF under 2 MB — merge first, then compress.

Split PDF — extract only the pages you need

Got a 200-page bank statement but need 3 pages for KYC? Split PDF extracts pages locally instead of sending the whole document to a server.

Compress PDF — shrink for portals and email

College and government portals reject files over 1–2 MB. Compress PDF reduces size in one click so scanned certificates actually upload.

PDF to Image — pages to PNG or JPG

Turn resume pages or posters into shareable images with PDF to Image — handy for thumbnails and social posts.

Protect PDF — password encryption on your device

Protect PDF encrypts with a password before you share an invoice or agreement. The password never leaves your browser either.

Unlock PDF — remove passwords you own

Locked your own export and lost the workflow? Unlock PDF removes passwords from files you own, locally.

Rotate PDF — fix sideways scans

Phone-scanned PDFs often land sideways. Rotate PDF rotates individual pages without re-uploading.

Image tools — compress, crop, resize, convert, to-PDF

  • Compress Image — shrink screenshots and photos while keeping quality.
  • Crop Image — crop to any ratio for forms and profiles.
  • Resize Image — exact dimensions for portals that demand 20–50 KB photos.
  • Convert Image — PNG, JPG, and WebP conversion both ways.
  • Image to PDF — photos of documents become one clean PDF.

Chain them: compress a scan, convert it, then send it straight into Image to PDF or Merge — files pass between tools through temporary IndexedDB, not a server.

How the privacy architecture works

  1. File stays in memory. The file picker reads into browser memory via JavaScript. No POST, no multipart upload.
  2. Work happens in Web Workers. Heavy PDF and image work runs off the main thread so the UI stays smooth.
  3. Libraries are static files. pdf-lib and pdf.js load only on PDF tool pages; Canvas and OffscreenCanvas handle pixels. They process data — they do not transmit it.
  4. Cross-tool handoff expires. Sending output from Compress to Merge buffers in IndexedDB and is pruned automatically after 30 minutes or on download. Close the tab and it is gone.
  5. Minimal storage. localStorage holds only theme preference. sessionStorage holds dismissed UI state for the session. No cookies from PixelDocs itself.
  6. Lazy ads only. AdSense loads only after your first click or scroll, and shows a consent banner in GDPR regions. Full details at pixeldocs.mayurmalpani.online/about.html .

Verify it yourself in 30 seconds

  1. Open Merge PDF .
  2. Press F12, go to the Network tab, filter by Fetch/XHR.
  3. Add two PDFs and merge them.
  4. Watch: no file payload leaves your machine. Compare that with any upload-first tool and the difference is obvious.

Second test: load a tool once, throttle your network to Slow 3G, and keep working — processing stays instant because there is no round-trip.

Honest limits of client-side tools

  • Very large PDFs (hundreds of MB) are bound by your device RAM, not a server.
  • Password removal works on user-password PDFs you own; it cannot break strong owner restrictions it was never meant to.
  • Compression quality depends on the source — a photo of a photo will only shrink so far.
  • Old browsers without modern Web Worker and Canvas support will struggle; any updated Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari works.

FAQ

How can free PDF tools work without uploading?

Modern browsers can parse and rebuild PDFs with pdf-lib and render pages with pdf.js, and manipulate pixels with Canvas — all locally. PixelDocs uses those APIs instead of a server.

Is it safe to process bank statements or ID scans?

Safer than upload-first sites by design: files never traverse the network or sit on a third-party disk. For maximum caution, work offline after the page loads and close the tab when done.

Does PixelDocs track what I convert?

No analytics, no accounts, no file logs. Theme choice and temporary cross-tool buffers are the only browser storage used.

What should I try first?

Merge PDF for combining, Compress PDF for size limits, and Protect PDF before sharing anything sensitive.
